The Foundation for Agricultural Education in Perugia is the heir to the artistic and land heritage formerly belonging to the Benedictine Community of San Pietro. It owns an Agricultural Estate and promotes innovation, quality, and sustainability. It is also home to the Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences of the University of Perugia.
Spanning 1,900 hectares across the hills and valleys of Deruta and Marsciano—where Benedictine monks once practiced the art of cultivation—the Agricultural Estate is nestled in the green heart of Umbria. The estate is dedicated to low environmental impact farming; central to its mission is the preservation of the historical genetic heritage of the Chianina cattle breed, whose feed is exclusively self-produced and which enjoys free access to pasturelands.
A wide selection of certified products is available: Extra Virgin Olive Oil harvested from centuries-old trees, legumes, and a variety of wines including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vermentino, Grechetto, and Viognier.
Thanks to its collaboration with the Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences of the University of Perugia, the Foundation promotes an increasingly sustainable, innovative, and high-quality precision agriculture.
It is committed to organizing events that blend nature, food and wine, and culture, offering tastings as well as guided tours of the Medieval Garden and the Botanical Garden. Featuring musical performances and art exhibitions in the striking Basilica of San Pietro, it has become a cultural landmark, engaging the community through events hosted in extraordinary locations.
