Nestled in the pristine heart of the Tescio Valley, at the foot of the Basilica of Assisi, the Bosco di San Francesco is a historic and landscape heritage site protected by the FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano (The National Trust for Italy). In addition to being an oasis of peace and spirituality, the Wood preserves an authentic agricultural soul deeply linked to the centuries-old tradition of the Umbrian olive groves.
Within its 64 hectares of nature, there are more than 1,000 century-old olive trees, carefully restored and tended, featuring typical local varieties such as Moraiolo, Frantoio, and Leccino. Standing out among the rows is Michelangelo Pistoletto’s iconic Land Art piece “Il Terzo Paradiso” (The Third Paradise), framed by a double row of 121 olive trees.
From the hand-harvesting of the olives and cold milling comes a top-quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil with a fruity, balanced flavor—a testament to FAI’s commitment to preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The local production is completed by a selection of organic honey derived from the park’s wild flora.
At the Benedictine Complex of Santa Croce, visitors can stroll through the olive groves, participate in guided tastings, and purchase the Bosco’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil alongside other local specialties.
